Abstract

Integrated silicon photonics has developed since the 2000s, driven chiefly by the internet's growing need for very-high-bitrate optical-fibre transmitters and receivers. Several foundries now offer mature platforms and commercial products exist. A new technology generation is being developed to widen the field of application from transmission to optical data processing.
